Medford continues review process for recreational marijuana dispensary licenses – Wicked Local

With the addition of the city’s chief Assessor to the Cannabis Advisory Committee, and a set schedule of informational meetings, Medford has reinvigorated the review process that will whittle down the nine applicants seeking one of three adult recreational use marijuana dispensary licenses in the city.

The first review meeting Thursday, Sept. 9 gathered four applicants, Mystic Grow, MRFK, Resinate and Medford Cannabis, all with locations proposed for Mystic Avenue. The remaining applicants are scheduled to meet with the committee on Sept. 15.

The city’s review process was hampered by the loss of Medford’s Chief Financial Officer Aleesha Nunley Benjamin in July who left amid claims of being in a hostile work environment. The city delayed filling the empty seat pending the hiring of a new finance director for Medford.

Ellen Birdeau was appointed in August, joining city department heads MaryAnn O’Connor, public health; Paul Mochi, building department; Neil Osborne, diversity, inclusion and human resources; and Jack Buckley, the city’s chief of police.

One of the committee’s first actions was to decide whether an applicant, Just Healthy/The Source, could continue the process after changing the proposed location of the business from a structure at 322 Mystic Ave. to 39 Commercial St.
